A Federal Grand Jury has issued indictments against two Glasgow Police Department assistant chiefs. The Defendants are Johnny Lee Travis and Maxie Christopher Murray. They are charged with violating 21 U.S.C. Section 844, 846 (the Federal Controlled Substances Act) and 18 U.S.C. Section 1512 (b)(3) (Federal Witness Tampering).

The five other counts relate to threats made against witnesses including one believed to be within the Glasgow Police Department. Murray is quoted in the indictment as stating “Let me tell you, your job lays in my hands. You can be fired today, OK?” “Have you been involved in this investigation on Mayor Travis and myself?” “I want absolute honesty because your job rests in my hands.” Travis then stated “I don’t want to hurt you… but I’ll say this and you remember what I’m telling [same individual to whom Murray was speaking]. If you those people that are saying this bad stuff about you are telling the truth, you are finished”.

Major Maxie Christopher MurrayTravis and Murray have been with the Glasgow Police force respectively since 1991 and 1996. Both were majors and assistant police Chiefs. The US Justice Watch has contacted Glasgow Mayor Darrell G. Pickett and Police Chief Gary Bewly for comments. Both were in meetings today and could not be reached by phone. The Indictment is below.
